The great mind behind The Apothecary Diaries, Natsu Hy¨±ga, had initially intended for volume 12 to be the series' conclusion. But Hy¨±ga finally decided to carry on the story. What made her reconsider, then? The answer is found in the intrigue she hasn't yet thoroughly explored and the depth of her characters as they develop.
As per Screenrant, Natsu Hy¨±ga recently admitted that she had previously thought about ending the story considerably sooner in an interview with Japan's Da Vinci magazine (via keiuzuki on X). She imagined at the time that the ending would occur around Volume 12 of the light novel series, which is when Maomao finally accepts her emotions for Jinshi.
She clarified that the moment when Maomao starts to accept and come to grips with her love for Jinshi was initially intended to be a natural conclusion. She pointed out that "that could have been one way to close it." But in the end, Hy¨±ga's growing bond with the characters altered her path. She acknowledged that she wasn't ready to stop writing as she went along, saying she wanted to go a little more into Maomao's story.
The show, which transpires in a Tang dynasty alternate reality, centers on Maomao, a young woman who was sold as a slave to the emperor's palace after receiving training by her father, an apothecary, at a young age. She uses her medical skills to help the palace's individuals in secret.
Currently, The Apothecary Diaries season 2 is making waves amongst fans!?
