The Diplomat is based on the real story of Uzma Ahmed, an Indian woman who was trapped in Pakistan after being tricked into a marriage. What starts as a hopeful visit to meet someone she thought she loved turns into a terrifying experience in a remote village, where she's held against her will and abused. Desperate and with no one else to turn to, Uzma somehow makes her way to the Indian Embassy in Islamabad.
There, she meets J. P. Singh, the Deputy High Commissioner, an experienced diplomat used to rules, protocol, and paperwork. But nothing could prepare him for the emotional storm Uzma brings into his office. What follows is a tense, emotional journey as Singh tries to get Uzma back home. He faces legal hurdles, pressure from both governments, and the constant fear of what might happen if things go wrong.
The Times of India rated the movie 3.5 out of 5, and a part of their review read, ¡°The direct exchange between the Indian and Pakistani ministries, rather than the embassy simply relaying messages, could have heightened the intensity. However, the tense moments crafted are gripping enough to keep you engaged with bated breath. The compelling narrative and John Abraham¡¯s performance make The Diplomat well worth watching.¡±
