Ibrahim Ali Khan may have inherited Saif Ali Khan's charm and Sharmila Tagore's legacy, but it seems that wasn't enough to save his debut film, Nadaaniyan. While fans were eagerly waiting to be wowed, the trailer,? and eventually the film, left them thoroughly underwhelmed. And now, his own grandmother, Sharmila Tagore, didn't hold back either, bluntly stating, "the picture isn't great." Oof!
In a candid chat with Anandabazar Patrika, veteran actor and Bollywood royalty Sharmila Tagore didn't mince words when talking about grandson Ibrahim Ali Khan's debut in Nadaaniyan. Echoing the sentiments of many viewers, she admitted, "Ibrahim's film was not good, but he still looks very handsome. He has tried his best. These things shouldn't really be said in front of everyone, but honestly, the picture isn't great. Ultimately, the picture has to be good."
However, she did note, just like any other doting grandma: "Sara and Ibrahim are doing a wonderful job."
The 80-year-old veteran, whose Bengali film Puratawn is currently in theatres, also praised Sara Ali Khan, saying, "Sara is a good actress. She works very hard and is capable of doing a lot more. She'll also achieve that."
Up next, Ibrahim will be seen in Karan Johar's Sarzameen alongside Kajol, while Sara is all set to star in Anurag Basu's Metro... In Dino opposite Aditya Roy Kapur.
Directed by Suman Ghosh, Puratwan has won several awards, including Best Feature Film at the Indian Film Festival of Houston and Best Film and Best Actress (for Sharmila Tagore) at the Washington DC South Asian Film Festival.
In a recent interview with PTI, Sharmila shared that Puratwan will be her last Bengali film due to health reasons. "I love doing Bengali films. I love everything about Kolkata, but I am not as fit (for acting in shoots) as required due to my health conditions."
For those unaware, Tagore was diagnosed with stage zero lung cancer during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her daughter Soha Ali Khan said it was caught very early and removed surgically, with no need for chemotherapy.
