After so many incidents of dogs attacking the residents of Gurugram, the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum ordered the Municipal Corporation Gurugram (MCG) to prohibit 11 foreign dog breeds, revoke their registrations, take them into custody, and keep all stray dogs in pound shelters.
A woman who sustained critical injuries after being bitten by a pet dog on August 11 in Civil Lines was also granted temporary relief by the Gurugram consumer forum. The forum instructed MCG to develop a dog-friendly policy within three months.
In October, the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation also approved a plan to prohibit the domestication of Pitbull, Rottweiler and Dogo Argentino breeds dogs.
The eleven prohibited dog breeds include Dogo Argentino, Rottweiller, Boerboel, Presa Canario, Neapolitan Mastiff, Wolfdog, Cane Corso, Bandog, and Fila Brasileiro. They are all examples of American bulldogs and are considered "dangerous foreign breeds."
On November 15, the forum stated, ¡°The MCG is directed to cancel all the licence/s if any, issued in this regard in favour of the dog owners for keeping the above-cited pet dogs with immediate effect and take into its custody the aforesaid dogs immediately.¡±
The order further reads, ¡°Every registered dog shall wear a collar to which shall be attached a metal token coupled with a metal chain. The MCG is directed to require that one family will keep only one dog and that whenever the registered dog is taken to public places, its mouth shall be properly covered with a net cap or otherwise.¡±
