Normally, you did expect a billionaire to have a lavish home, but Elon Musk isn't like your usual billionaire. The eccentric figure often does things differently and it often shows.?
Elon Musk may be the second richest person in the world with a personal fortune of $185 billion, but he had revealed last month that he lives in a rented home that costs $50,000.
The?Tesla?and?SpaceX?CEO?has sold off a portfolio of luxurious California?mansions?and says he is now living in budget accommodation in Boca Chica, Texas.
According to a report in Forbes, he rents?rents a ¡°foldable, prefabricated home¡± made by Boxabl, a housing startup company.?The house, which Musk tweeted sells for about $50,000, typically has a setup akin to a small studio apartment: One large room partitioned into a living room area, bedroom area, kitchen and bathroom.
In November, Boxabl?posted a video of a unit it was building in Boca Chica. The home was for a "top-secret customer," the company said. It had a poster of a Falcon 9, a partially reusable rocket built by Musk's SpaceX, on its door, Insider reported.?
The 50-year-old mogul?first announced?plans to sell all of his homes and most of his possessions last year, in response to criticism of his massive wealth. Musk has now nearly made good on his promise to do so,?selling six of his seven properties.??
The SpaceX CEO?said in June?that?he had only one house left?in the San Francisco Bay Area that he rented out for events and was waiting to sell. It "needs to go to a large family who will live there," he said, because "it's a special place."??
