In another shocking incident, after the tragic Ahmedabad Air India plane crash, an IndiGo flight travelling from Guwahati to Chennai on Thursday, June 20, with 168 passengers, had to make an emergency landing in Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport. The pilot sounded a mayday alert before landing safely in Bengaluru.
The incident took place days after Air India's plane crash in Ahmedabad, killing at least 270 people, including 241 passengers and crew members on board. On the other hand, so far, no statement has been issued by IndiGo on the matter yet.

The IndiGo, Guwahati to Chennai flight landed in Bengaluru at 8:15 pm on June 19, and both the pilots of the flight were de-rostered.
The report mentioned that due to congestion at the Chennai airport, it prevented the plane was prevented from landing on time. While the pilot on the flight attempted to land at Chennai airport at around 7:45 pm, but aborted the landing attempt and decided to head towards Bengaluru.

The report further cited sources that after receiving the 'mayday call', air traffic control, fire, and medical services were mobilised, and the plane made a safe landing around 8:15 pm.
According to Mint, describing the situation, a passenger said that the plane, after attempting to land in Chennai, had taken a sudden and steep approach, which left many of them 'on edge'.
On the other hand, multiple sources at the airport and the Air Traffic Control (ATC) confirmed that the pilot did not attempt a second landing in Chennai. Instead of that, he chose to divert the flight to Bengaluru.
It is also said that both the pilots involved have been taken off duty, although the airline has not confirmed anything on this. Moreover, the IndiGo plane also noted that the aircraft was critically low on fuel, because of which it had to make an emergency landing in Bengaluru.
