US President Donald Trump took to Truth Social on X (formerly called Twitter) to announce a breakthrough in the ongoing Middle East crisis, claiming that a 'complete ceasefire has been agreed between Israel and Iran' on Tuesday, June 24.
In the post, Trump said that the ceasefire will be phased in over 24 hours and would bring an ※official END§ to the war. However, there was no immediate comment from Iran or Israel on Trump's announcement yet.
Trump also indicated in his post that Israel and Iran would give time to finish any ongoing missions, after which the ceasefire would commence gradually in phases.
Trump announced that Israel and Iran have fully agreed to a complete ceasefire, which will take effect in about six hours, after both sides have finished their current ongoing missions. The ceasefire is set to last for 12 hours, after which the conflict will be officially considered over.
He celebrated the agreement with a congratulatory message to all parties involved. He wrote in the post, "CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE! It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in progress, final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED!§
Trump also asserted that the conflict between Israel and Iran had the potential to last for years and devastate the Middle East.
The development comes hours after Iran launched a missile attack on a US air base in Qatar, retaliating for the American bombing of its nuclear sites the previous day.
On the other hand, ※On the assumption that everything works as it should, which it will, I would like to congratulate both countries, Israel and Iran, on having the stamina, Courage, and Intelligence to end, what should be called, ※THE 12 DAY WAR."
※This is a War that could have gone on for years, and destroyed the entire Middle East, but it didn*t, and never will!," he further added in the post.
Moreover, earlier, Trump expressed his gratitude to Iran for providing the U.S. and its allies with advance warning of its retaliation. He also voiced hope that Iran had "let off steam" and that the situation would help ease tensions in the Israel-Iran conflict.
