The fashion industry has come a long way in representing all body shapes and sizes. Seeing a plus-size model in magazines, billboards and retail websites has become a norm, which was not the case earlier.?
Imagine this - you want to buy tights for a plus-sized figure, and you go on one of the retail giants' websites. It goes without saying that you would want to see a plus-size model in the tights to see how it will actually look on you. What you would not want to see is how far can the tights stretch with a giant water container shoved inside them. Shein did something similar.
A?Twitter?user @karmaxkarmmposted a screenshot about a model from the women's clothing brand Shein posing with a water container shoved inside her plus-size tights. The user criticised the company's representation of the plus-sized tights as she wrote in the tweet, "SHEIN y¡¯all couldn¡¯t find y¡¯all a plus size model??????? Wtf is THIS?"?
In the screenshot, a model was seen holding a water container, seemingly with a capacity of 10 litres, indicating that the tights are truly stretchable. The user then questioned why the same thing could not be depicted with a plus-sized model.
The tweet has received a lot of attention.?A user, in response to the tweet, wrote, "I couldn¡¯t believe it either and saved these last year. I guess a few companies think this is ok"?
?Another user joked, "You can wear it with your bestie s¨® both never get separated."
Another user questioned, "Well I mean, it makes sense. They¡¯re trying to demonstrate that it fits the woman that¡¯s in it, and can stretch up to a much bigger size. They couldn¡¯t do that in reverse. If you saw someone that big wear it¡¯d you probably wouldn¡¯t assume someone smaller could wear it."
