Vicky Kaushal Says Working With Shoojit Sircar In Sardar Udham Singh Biopic Was A Dream Come True

Did you know, Irrfan Khan was the original choice for Sardar Udham Singh Biopic but because of his health conditions, he was replaced with Vicky Kaushal.

Shoojit Sircar who is making the film had said in a statement, ¡°Irrfan and I have had a discussion on this. He is recovering well and is in a good mood. He wants to start work on films but for now, he would like to do a film that does not require the kind of strenuous physical action that this film would. He told me to move on since we have waited for long on this film. He and I are in touch and we are working on something else together.¡±

Now that Vicky Kaushal has bagged the role, he says, he is the happiest to be working with Shoojit Sircar. In fact, he called it a dream come true to be working with a director who has helmed movies like Piku, October, Vicky Donor and Pink among others.

¡°It's a dream come true for me to be working with Shoojit Sircar because it's a very different process of acting and making a film when you are working with him,¡± Vicky Kaushal told IANS.

For the unversed, Udham Singh assassinated Michael O' Dwyer, the former lieutenant governor of Punjab in pre-Independence India, in revenge for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar in 1919. Singh was subsequently tried and convicted of murder and hanged in July 1940.

"This story and character really appealed to me and the way Shoojit da wanted to present 'Udham Singh'... revolutionary to the audience. That really appealed to me. The take on it is really fresh and I am looking forward to it," he added.

The Udham Singh biopic is slated to release in 2020.
