Indiatimes spoke to Kunal about the success of the show, his journey as an outsider in the industry and a lot more.
Talking about the success of the show, he said, ¡°I am very overwhelmed to see the reaction for the show and for the character. Every time you write a character about an Emperor or King it is written in a certain way. This was the character that was written differently. This was the character that is very vulnerable, flawed and emotionally weak who falls apart very often and needs women to sort it all out, put him together and show him the right path. And sometimes it becomes very difficult to convince the audience that the Emperor can be this way also, because you already have an image of an Emperor like we are used to in a certain way. So, it definitely becomes difficult to break that conditioning. I am very happy that we managed to do that.¡±

We asked Kunal about people having problems with the glorification of Babur in the show, to which he said,
"As an actor it is very important to be honest with the material that you given, we never said that we are making a biopic. This is a story based on a historical fiction book. So it has elements of history but lots of things have been fictionalised. I think as an actor my job is to be completely honest to the vision of the soft material (which is book). Tomorrow you might offer me the same role but with a different point of view and I might play that as well. As an actor, I just have to be honest to what is written and that is my job.¡±

When asked Kunal about the industry¡¯s hypocrisy that it only appreciates you when you are at the peak and leaves you alone in your dull times. He replied,
"This is a business of cinema. You have to understand the word business in the industry when you become an actor which means that you will be in demand when you are good for business and you can¡¯t feel bad about that. Yes, it takes time to understand that because you live in place where you are emotionally connected to so many people but you have to understand it¡¯s business like any other business and as long as you are somebody who can give profit people will run behind you, and be interested in you. If you are somebody who is not making a profit, people won¡¯t be interested in you and that¡¯s the fact you should accept it as soon as possible.¡±
Kunal does admit that it¡¯s very hard for an outsider to make it but OTT has changed things dramatically,
"Of course, it is very hard because there is no one to guide you to say what is wrong or right or for you. When your movies don¡¯t work out then there is nobody to give you another film to resurrect your career. You are offered the villain part or the supporting actor roles because there is no one there to back you.
However, things have changed dramatically now. With the OTT platform, there is demarcations of talent, the casting here doesn¡¯t depend upon the market value and which is why you see so many actors are making a mark. I feel this is the best time to be an actor whether you are an insider or outsider.¡±
He even reveals how he resist himself during his bad phase ¡°
"Success is when talent meets opportunity and that is not always in your hand, but developing your talent is. Working on yourself is something that you can do. Lot of actors who have just started tell me that it is very frustrating for them to wait and all I say to them - just wait and work on themselves because you will get that opportunity someday and you have to be ready for that.¡±
