Medical Advisor For Contagion, A Film Fans Think Predicted Coronavirus, Tests COVID-19 Positive

You must have heard about 2011 film Contagion, a film that everyone is rewatching after the coronavirus pandemic has taken over the globe. A lot of them even think that the movie starring Gwyneth Paltrow predicted COVID-19.

"I think people should have taken it much more seriously," Veterinary pathologist Tracey McNamara, who worked as scientific adviser for the film had earlier said.

And now, another shocking news has hit people hard. Dr. Ian Lipkin who served as medical advisor for the movie and designed every detail of the fictional virus to make it look real has contracted the coronavirus.

Lipkin, who advised director Steven Soderbergh on the realistic movie made the revelation on a segment for Fox News.

"I would like to say on this show tonight, this has become very personal to me, too. Because I have COVID as of yesterday. It¡¯s miserable," he said.

"If it can hit me, it can hit anybody. That¡¯s the message I want to convey," he added.

"We really don¡¯t know when we¡¯re going to get this under control. We have porous borders between states and cities, and unless we¡¯re consistent, we¡¯re not gonna get ahead of this thing," he said and added, that ¡°the best tool we have is isolation and confinement.¡±

About the 2011 film, he said that he took up the job because he felt ¡°this was an effort to accurately represent the science and to make a movie that would entertain as well as educate.¡±

For the unversed, 2011 film Contagion, which starred starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Matt Damon follows the story of mankind dealing with a fictional virus called MEV-1. The virus in the movie has 72-hour incubation period and high fatality rate.

MEV-1 spreads in the movie after "the wrong pig met up with the wrong bat." It then spreads to humans because a chef didn't wash his hands before shaking hands with a businessman.

In the movie, Gwyneth Paltrow's character is the first one to die. The movie also stars Jude Law, Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard and Laurence Fishbourne.
