Who is Anna Wintour?
With her bob cut,dark sunglasses and a personality to die for, Wintour has always got people talking. Wintour's impact goes well beyond magazine pages as the Editor-in-Chief of Vogue since 1988 and the Global Editorial Director for Cond¨¦ Nast, her signature. This is particularly true of one of the greatest nights in fashion, the Met Gala.
How it all started
Anna Wintour, who was born in London in 1949, started working as a fashion journalist in the early 1970s. She sought advice from her father, Charles Wintour, who served as editor of the London-based Evening Standard from 1959 to 1976, on how to make the publication appealing to the young people of the time. She worked for Harper's & Queen, New York Magazine, and House & Garden before joining Vogue, where she transformed the magazine.

Anna Wintour and the Met Gala
Her reputation as fashion royalty was solidified at the Met Gala. Held annually at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the Met Gala is officially known as the Costume Institute Benefit. Wintour has been in charge of organizing and curating the event since 1995. Wintour has a key role in deciding on the theme, approving the guest list, and establishing the evening's mood. The Met Gala has had themes under her direction, including Heavenly Bodies, Notes on Fashion, and most recently, Tailored For You, for Met Gala 2025.
