To Anyone Who Feels They Can't Get Their Life Together

I am not the first person and certainly not the last to admit that I don't have my life together.

This might come as a shock to my friends on Instagram, where I might have inadvertently let on that I have it all figured out. Yes my life is full of exciting travel, dining at the best restaurants (after saving up for month), wine dates with my girlfriends and bonding time with my sister, oh, and the blessing of a stable job. But even then, I found myself searching 'How to get my life together' on Google. And that got me thinking - what the hell does having your life 'together' even mean? Are there people out there who feel their life is going exactly as planned or how they wanted it to go?

Sometimes it feels like I'm on the right track. I have a job that I love because it allows me to nourish my creativity every single day. I have a best friend who treats me like I am his most prized possession. Love keeps coming and going. There are some days where I genuinely feel everything is going good but then suddenly, something happens and I feel like I have been knocked down. It could be something about my finances, something in my personal life, or just the constant feeling of never being good enough. Nothing can ever just be right.

This got me talking to people, including a few adults who I look up to and treat as a source of inspiration. It turns out no one, literally no one feels that they have their life together. These people have great jobs, loving families, food on the table, money to live a life on their terms, friendships that have lasted decades, and none of them can say without a shadow of doubt that everything is going well.

Which made me realize the following: money, a stable job, relationships, love, friendship, travel etc might not be good enough to make you feel that you have got your life figured out.

So what does it to mean to have your life together?

Well, now that we know the feeling of having your life together isn't tied to anything tangible or materialistic, it fair to establish that it's a state of mind. Which means how you feel on an everyday basis, sets the tone for feeling whether you have more control of your life or not.

The question then is, how do you develop that state of mind?

It's easy - have faith and take every day as it comes. If there's something to be happy about, please celebrate that with all your heart. If something unravels, mourn it and move past it. Show yourself some love. Sleep well. Control your mood swings. Let people know you love them. At the end of the day, it's about how you feel, and not what you have.
