After A Steep Decline In COVID Cases, These Countries Are Now Seeing A Resurgence

As the world started to pick pace, many countries even a year since the coronavirus outbreak are now seeing an uptick in the COVID-19 cases. Here are some of the countries that are reeling under the threat of Delta variant. Take a look.

1. United States

Case numbers are climbing across most of the country as the Delta variant spreads among unvaccinated people. Arkansas, Missouri, Florida and Nevada are experiencing full-fledged outbreaks. Total 3,40,19,776 cases have been reported so far and 30,702 cases have been reported on 16th July.

The country remains in far better shape than at almost all previous points of the pandemic. Deaths remain near their lowest levels since spring 2020, and hospitalizations are a fraction of their winter peak.

The vaccination campaign has largely stalled. About 550,000 shots are being administered each day, down from more than 3.3 million at the peak.

2. Thailand

Thailand has imposed a nationwide ban on public gatherings and was considering more restrictions on movement as authorities reported record numbers of new cases and deaths on Saturday.

Despite partial lockdowns in Bangkok and nine other provinces this week, the country¡¯s Covid-19 task force reported 10,082 new coronavirus cases and 141 new deaths, bringing the total number of infections to 391,989 cases and 3,240 fatalities since the pandemic started.

A ban on public gatherings has been imposed, with a maximum penalty of a two-year jail term or a fine of up to 40,000 baht ($1,220) or both, an announcement on the official Royal Gazette published late on Friday showed.

3. United Kingdom

More than 50,000 daily coronavirus cases have been reported in the UK for the first time since mid-January. There were 51,870 cases recorded - the highest figure since 15 January - and 49 deaths within 28 days of a positive test.

From Monday, lockdown rules will end in England - although some guidance will remain. Earlier, England's chief medical officer warned hospital admissions could hit "scary numbers".

The highest number of daily cases the UK has recorded so far is 68,053 on 8 January. Health Secretary Sajid Javid previously warned case numbers could reach 50,000 a day by 19 July, and as high as 100,000 over the summer.

4. Brazil

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Brazil has increased by 57,736 to 19,209,729 within the past 24 hours, the national Ministry of Health said on late Wednesday.

According to the ministry, the death toll has risen by 1,556 to 537,394 people within the same period of time. More than 17.85 million patients have recovered since the start of the outbreak. A day earlier, the country confirmed record 45,022 new coronavirus cases, with 1,605 fatalities.
