Legendary sprinter Milkha Singh, one of the most respected figures in the Indian sports history, passed away on Friday. He was 91 years old. His wife Nirmal Kaur also passed away this week. Both were infected with the Covid-19. Immediately after independence, if any one player raised India's head on the global sports stage, it was Milkha Singh.

Milkha, a four-time Asian Games gold medalist, had also won the gold medal at the 1958 Commonwealth Games. His best performance, however, was at the 1960 Rome Olympics in which he finished fourth in the 400m final. He also represented India in the 1956 and 1964 Olympics.
