Ilaiyaraaja slams Good Bad Ugly makers with ?5 cr legal notice over copyright violation; netizens say, 'They had it coming'

Ilaiyaraaja, the veteran music composer, is back in the spotlight after issuing a legal notice to the makers of the film Good Bad Ugly, starring Ajith Kumar. The composer has reportedly demanded substantial compensation of Rs 5 crore for the alleged unauthorised use of his songs.

Along with this, he has also demanded an official apology. On the other hand, the producer Yalamanchili Ravi Shankar of Mythri Movie Makers has finally broken his silence on the same.

According to an HT report, he said that they have taken permission from all the music labels required for the songs they used in the movie. "The labels hold the rights, so we have followed protocol and taken NOCS from them. We have done things by the book."

In his legal notice, Ilaiyaraaja also pointed out that there are three of his songs that were used in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly without approval. The songs include Ilamai Idho Idho from Sakalakala Vallavan, Otha Roobayum Tharen from Nattupura Pattu, and En Jodi Manja Kuruvi from Vikram, reported News18.

He went on to assert that the filmmakers used his songs without seeking his permission or approval. As per the legal notice, this constitutes a clear case of copyright infringement and also violates his moral rights as an original music composer.

Ilaiyaraaja clarified that he never granted any form of consent or permission for his music to be used or modified for the film. He also sought 5 crores as compensation from the team working behind Aijth's film and urged them to immediately stop the use of his songs in the project.
