As Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to announce her fourth consecutive budget, social media users were busy doing what they do best -- make memes.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget for the year 2022 in parliament today. Citizens of the country had many expectations from the budget.
Especially middle-class citizens and individual taxpayers, who contribute almost 35-40% of direct tax revenues, had been expecting some income tax relief to offset the economic damage that was caused due to the covid-19 induced pandemic.
However, as expected from people, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman did not announce any changes in income tax rates or slabs while presenting the Union Budget 2022.

In this year¡¯s paperless budget, Nirmala Sitharaman brought up important points like the auction of the 5G spectrum, allocating funds for the Nal Se Jal scheme and many more.
Despite the fact that there was no change in the income tax rates, a big jump in capital expenditure and a 30 per cent tax on transfer or sale of digital assets were the highlights of Budget 2022. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also announced that a digital rupee will be introduced by the Reserve Bank of India in 2022-23.

In addition, she also announced how the government's total expenditure has been increased by 4.8 per cent to ? 39.5 lakh crore. The surcharge on long-term capital gains has been capped at 15 per cent.
A Gati Shakti Master Plan for expressways to facilitate faster movement of people and goods, a data centre and an energy storage system will be given infrastructure status to provide easy financing to the sector.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has also announced a new provision allowing taxpayers to file updated Income Tax Returns (ITR) on payment of additional tax. This updated return can be filed within 2 years from the end of the relevant assessment year. This new and updated budget says that instead of going through a lengthy process of adjudication when income tax department finds ommisions or other issues in your income disclosure the taxpayers can on their own declare the income they might have missed out earlier while filing the return.
