'The Kerala Story' Makers Donate Rs 51 Lakhs To Support 300 Victims Of Religious Conversion

In the midst of the political uproar, The Kerala Story has managed to emerger a blockbuster hit. The film has become the?second highest-grossing Hindi film of 2023. It has overtaken?Ranbir Kapoor's Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar and Salman Khan's Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan and is just behind Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan. The movie has so far minted Rs?156.69 crore gross. It's banned in West Bengal and declared tax free in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.?

Amid the success, the makers have announced to donate Rs 51 lakhs for 300 victims of religious conversion.?

Producer Vipul Shah said at the press conference, "The main reason for us to make The Kerala Story, why Sudipto came forward with the story and made the film, is to help these girls. We're going to start by helping rehabilitate 300 girls in the ashram. We, Sunshine Pictures and the team of 'The Kerala Story', would like to start by donating Rs 51 lakh."

The team of The Kerala Story was joined by 26 victims of conversion.?

Shah added, "All these girls are very brave, face a lot of dangers daily. Despite those dangers, they've come here to speak up. Today, we're beginning an initiative called 'Protect The Daughters', an ashram, which will be a safe space for victims like them".

Vipul Shah also addressed the rumours of targetting a particular community through their film.?

"This is not about any religion. Not Hindu, Muslim or Christian. It is about three girls who represent the sufferings of thousands of girls. It was not about showing a few Hindus or Muslims in a good light. Each and every word and visual we have spoken or shown, it is correct. How far it is correct, you can cross question with them (alleged victims on stage)".

Ever since the first teaser of Adah Sharma-starrer The Kerala Srtoy was released, it kicked a political storm. While the makers claimed that the movie was based on the real-life story of 32,000 women who were not only brainwashed to convert to Islam but were also sent to join terror group like ISIS, people including several political leaders from Kerala demanded proof of the same claiming that the number is huge and unreal.?

The makers then changed the number to three. Producer Vipul Shah has reacted to the?number controversy. Here's how he defended his stance.
