Hollywood star Tom Cruise was in full action mode off-screen this week at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, leading the promotional campaign for Mission: Impossible 〞 The Final Reckoning. This is the eighth and expected final chapter of the long-running franchise, and Cruise is making sure it gets a send-off as explosive as the movies themselves.
Cruise appeared alongside co-stars Pom Klementieff, Angela Bassett, Hayley Atwell, and Hannah Waddingham at the Grand Palais. Together, they posed on the red carpet before heading into the Palais des Festivals. Director Christopher McQuarrie joined the cast as they teased one of the year*s most awaited films. Cruise also surprised the audience during McQuarrie*s masterclass earlier in the day, drawing huge attention across the Croisette.
Cruise*s Cannes appearance is part of a much larger global tour. He has already visited London, Japan, and South Korea for the film*s promotion. The actor took things further with daring stunts〞climbing the BFI IMAX in London and skydiving out of a helicopter with a camera mounted to his chest. Media analyst Paul Dergarabedian called the campaign unlike anything he*s ever seen, calling the film ※the cinematic equivalent of the biggest ride at the theme park.§
Cruise also gave an interview on TikTok, a rare platform choice for him. His involvement shows the high hopes pinned on this final installment. The film aims to top previous box office performances. While Dead Reckoning didn*t meet opening expectations in 2023, it still became the highest-grossing Mission: Impossible title internationally, excluding China.
Paramount sources are expecting The Final Reckoning to outperform past entries. Budget estimates range from USD 300 to over 400 million, placing it alongside blockbuster franchises like Fast & Furious and Avengers. With Cruise leading from the front, both on and off-screen, the momentum at Cannes 2025 suggests this mission could end on a high.
