The real-life consort Queen Charlotte (played by the unflappable Golda Rosheuvel), who was added to the programme from its source material in the Julia Quinn novels, is the centre of the new six-part limited series Bridgerton.

@shondarhimes I just finished Queen Charlotte Bridgerton story I felt every emotion humanly possible. I cried, laughed, got angry and etc. I¡¯ve never cried so hard to an ending. I am a sucker for romance! This by far is the best Bridgerton story.

Finished Queen Charlotte¡¯s (a bridgerton story) , I love all of the series but this one has been my favorite. I think it¡¯ has the been the only one that has made me shed some tears. It was very lovely. I eventually need to get the actual books.

About the true story
In contrast to how she is portrayed in the Bridgerton spin-off, Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz was only considered as a potential wife for the new king because of how lovely and "sweet-tempered" she was. Only six hours had passed since their first meeting when the couple was married in 1761. Despite being born close to royalty (her father and brother were German dukes and her mother a princess), she apparently had a sheltered upbringing, a poor education, and little exposure to royal society. She reportedly threw herself at King George III's feet when they first met as a sign of respect and trepidation.

She gave birth to 15 children in real life, including the future heir King George IV, with her spouse King George III.
However, the concerns of the fictional Charlotte are probably valid because the future monarch lived a lavish lifestyle and was succeeded by his brother William IV.
Two of Charlotte and George's children perished from smallpox, and thirteen of their children reached adulthood.

By using Black performers in royal roles, including Rosheuvel (who is of Guyanese heritage) as the queen, Bridgerton made news. This casting, along with the half-Ghanaian Amarteifio's portrayal of Queen Charlotte, could not have been entirely accurate. Charlotte "may have been England's first (and to date, only) queen of African heritage," according to History Extra and historian Mario De Valdes y Cocom.
Queen Charlotte experienced terrible oedema later in life, which causes swelling under the skin, and as her health declined, she spent most of her time alone in her chamber.
