Do Indian films lack global appeal? Anurag Basu says ¡®we are as young¡¯ as the Korean film industry
Anurag Basu discussed the current state of Indian film's?position in the global films landscape.?Although he recognises the industry's advancements, he believes much more can be done on the international scene.

For many years, Indian films have enjoyed widespread acclaim around the world. Everything about them, including the romance, heroism, and storytelling, has been adored by people. Filmmaker Anurag Basu now believes that there has been a discernible shift in the worldwide popularity of movies produced in recent years. In a recent interview, Anurag Basu discussed the lack of international recognition for Bollywood films and said that, in comparison to the Korean film industry, mainstream Indian cinema still has a ways to go.
Anurag Basu says we are as young as the Korean film industry
In an interaction with ANI, Anurag said, ¡°I think world cinema is noticing our films. But I think we have a long way to go because mainstream cinema still caters to the Indian diaspora and Indian audience. We still are far behind in getting a global audience. We only get an Indian audience globally. I think there is a long way to go.¡±
He claimed that, in contrast to the Korean film business, which has effectively attracted a worldwide audience, the Indian film industry largely serves an Indian audience. While Korean films are seen by people all over the world, Indian films are primarily seen by Indian viewers, with only a few ardent moviegoers interested in them abroad. He underlined that the industry measures success in terms of 100 crore or 500 crore earnings and does not prioritise worldwide appeal in favour of weekend box office receipts.
On the work front, Anurag Basu is currently working on Aashiqui 3 starring Kartik Aaryan. In addition, Anurag is directing Metro In Dino, the follow-up to his movie Life in a Metro.
