Sushmita Sen Talks About Being A Single Parent, 'Never Married Because Men Were A Let Down'

Sushmita Sen, who made India proud becoming the Miss Universe in 1994, has recently revealed that she came very close to getting married not once but thrice. However it didn't work out for her.

The actress, who is known for making unconventional decisions in both her professional and personal life, breaking many stereotypes, revealed in an interview that she doesn't want anybody to share her responsibilities or ask her to step away from it.

¡°I don't want anybody to come and share the responsibilities but never try and ask me to step away from it,¡± Sushmita Sen told Twinkle Khanna during a Tweak India interview while sharing the thumb rule for her relationships as a single parent.

Despite the recent break up with her boyfriend Rohman Shawl, the actress is on cordial terms and they still react to each other's posts on social media. Sushmita Sen had adopted her elder daughter, Renee when she was 24 and unmarried.

Several years later, she brought Alisah home, and remained unmarried which many common women would fear to do. Moreover, the former Miss Universe, has made it clear that her two adopted daughters were never the reason behind her being single.

Sushmita Sen stated, "Luckily I met some very interesting men in my life, the only reason I never got married is because they were a let down. It had nothing to do with my kids."

When Mahesh Bhatt Insulted Sushmita Sen For Her Acting

The former Miss Universe also opened up about how filmmaker and soon-to-be grandfather to Alia Bhatt's child Mahesh Bhatt slammed her acting skills. The Dilbar fame was roped in for Mahesh Bhatt's 1996 film Dastak soon after winning the Miss Universe 1994 pageant.

Despite her confession of not having any experience in acting or theatre, Mahesh Bhatt gave her the role. However, Sushmita Sen revealed that the filmmaker 'broke her ambition' by criticizing her acting skills in front of people.

Recalling the unpleasant incident, Sushmita Sen during her interaction with Twinkle Khanna said, "He is a fabulous director, I will give him that because he broke an ambition in front of 40 media people and 20 production guys, publicly attacking me."

"I started crying, 'I told you I can't act, why you called me for this, I don't know how to act.' He's like, 'kya leke aaye ho (what have you brought to me), playing Miss Universe like this on camera. She can't act to save her life'," the 51-year-old actress said.
