Talking about her journey with Them magazine, Airyn reflected on the deeper influences behind her transition in an interview with Them magazine contributor Ava Pauline Emilione. ¡°A big part of my transition has been the influence Black women have had on me,¡± she said. ¡°Stepping into this new identity, while also becoming more proud of my Blackness, makes me feel closer to them in some way.¡±
She went on to explain the emotional nuance of her journey: ¡°There¡¯s a difference between being visible and being seen. I¡¯ve been visible. I don¡¯t think I¡¯ve been seen yet.¡±
