Story of Anant Chaturdashi

The story of Anant Chaturdashi is recited while bathing and worshipping Lord Vishnu. Anant Sutra is made by adding 14 sacred knots to a cotton thread with turmeric, kumkum and saffron. After creating the Sutra, Achutaya Namah, Anantaya Namah, Govinday Namah mantras of Lord Vishnu are also offered.

On this day, the Brahmins' daughter, Sushila, took the ¡®Anant vow¡¯ after she got married. After her marriage to Kaundinya, she was blessed by Lord Anant with a prosperous life. She followed strict guidelines to get blessings from Lord Vishnu, Anant form to be showered with blessings and good fortune.¡¯

But her husband didn¡¯t believe in the blessings of Lord Anant and thought he got everything through his hard work. Then both of them went through a lot of misfortune and led a poor life. Then Kaundinya understood the reason for his failure and started performing rituals for better life and prosperity again. Finally, they ask for forgiveness and Lord Vishnu reveals himself as his incarnation in the form of Lord Anant.
