This US Couple Has Been Married For 46 Years & They Beat COVID-19 And Cancer Together

The coronavirus pandemic has wreaked havoc in the lives of thousands around the world. While some manage to survive the illness, others haven't. Amid this grim scenario, there are few uplifting stories and this US couple¡¯s battle against COVID-19 is one which gives us all a ray of hope.

Robert and Janice Beecham have been married for 46 years, and this year they are happy to be recovering after a chain of unexpected events.

Apart from being diagnosed with ovarian and breast cancer, Janice Beecham and her husband had to battle through COVID-19 quarantines¡ªbut they came out the other side together.

On March 25th, with Janice and Robert strictly following all public health guidelines on COVID-19 because of Janice¡¯s cancer, Robert called his son and decided to go to the doctor to take a COVID-19 test at his son¡¯s urging, as he had not been feeling well for a few days.

A month before his diagnosis, his wife Janice had undergone surgery for breast cancer and was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Just when she was about to start her chemotherapy, she learned about Robert's condition. Robert had also suffered two strokes in 2012 and 2016.

Robert was admitted to Parkland Hospital in Dallas alone and he attributes everything to his doctor, Satyam Nayak.¡°Dr. Nayak and I would open up casual conversations and it would take my mind off the virus,¡± Robert told CNN.

Janice had just recovered from having surgery in February after finding out about a second battle with breast cancer and a new diagnosis with ovarian cancer. She also tested positive for COVID-19, but luckily, she told CNN, her symptoms were mild.

As the recovery progressed, Dr Satyam Nayak began helping Robert devise a plan for home quarantine. Nayak pointed out areas of the home where Robert could and shouldn¡¯t go. He suggested areas where he and Janice could peek at one another from a distance.

¡°Once I got home, and we did the quarantine, I was getting progressively better but Janice still had issues with her health,¡± Robert told CNN.

¡°I didn¡¯t care about being sick at that time, I was too concerned about him,¡± Janice said.

They believe being home together helped them both heal. And they heap praise on Nayak.

"It would have been impossible to make it with all the odds against you without God, and he has been our help, all these many years," said the couple.

Janice has been declared cancer-free but her preventive radiation is still on. Robert, on the other hand, has beaten the virus after successful treatment by his doctor.
