A kick that landed them a Guinness World Record - Nagaland's Faith in Action Martial Arts Academy has made their state proud, and how.?
The Faith in Action team was able to achieve the feat of the highest martial arts kick (assisted) during the filming of India's Got Talent in Mumbai on July 5, 2023, as officially certified by Guinness World Records.?
Having succeeded at the auditions stage and reaching the mega audition level, the talented martial arts team from Faith in Action Martial Arts Academy travelled to Mumbai last month to participate in the studio round of India's Got Talent.?
Prior to the event, they had announced their intention to attempt a Guinness World Record and sought the support of the public.?
Nagaland Chief Minister congratulated them on Twitter, saying, "I am happy to know that Faith In Action from Nagaland created a new Guinness World Records for ¡°the highest martial arts kick (assisted)" on the set of India's Got Talent, in Mumbai, on July 5, 2023. Congratulations and best wishes for all future endeavours."?
Along with discipline and?self-defence, martial arts teaches one to have an indomitable spirit, which forms their attitude in all aspects of life.?
The "Faith-in-Action Taekwondo Academy" was founded in 2008 and has been enticing kids to learn martial arts since then.?Master Deep Kumar, its founder, was in Class 7 when he himself thought of learning martial arts and it was revenge that motivated him.?
"When I was in class 7, I got into a fight with a large group of guys and got badly beat up. So it is then that I thought of learning martial arts as a way to get 'revenge' at them!", the Master said, speaking to Zeliang Badass in 2021.?
"Later, as I trained, I realized that martial arts is about discipline and respect, and my original motivation of revenge was soon forgotten as I began to focus on competitions."?
In 2008, he opened his own academy - the Faith in Action Taekwondo Academy."Earlier, it was 'Taekwondo for Christ' where I would go to places like seminars and conferences to demonstrate Taekwondo. I tried to share social messages through actions involved in Taekwondo."?
In Taekwondo, an action that is commonly done is kicking and breaking wooden boards of varying thickness. Master Deep says that in order to spread a social message, he would write down social evils on these wooden boards, such as 'drugs', 'smoking', etc. So, the action of breaking these boards would then stand for ending such evils. That was his way of spreading a message through action.?
"When I started out, I did not even have a piece of land where I could start my academy. I asked for a favour from a well-wisher and started teaching in a land that they had. Initially, I just had 7-8 students. Today, I have training academies not only in Nagaland but also in states like Tripura and Assam and more than 600 students in total," he says.?
"My hope is to be able to set up a large institute?along with a stadium which would give employment to coaches and also train students so that they can participate in national, international levels, Olympics and make Nagaland proud."
Today, his Faith in Action team has done just that - made Nagaland proud by etching its name in history for having set a new Guinness World Record.?
