Kesari Chapter 2 box office verdict: Akshay Kumar¡¯s Kesari Chapter 2, which hit the screens on April 18, opened to a decent response at the box office and grossed Rs 15 crore on the first day. It also received positive reviews. The film then stayed stable in the urban markets but didn¡¯t find wide patronage in the mass pockets, where it faced competition from Sunny Deol¡¯s Jaat. Kesari 2 has now completed its run, and the box office verdict is out.
Is Kesari Chapter 2 a flop?
Kesari Chapter 2, which was released in theatres nearly a month ago, has failed to live upto expectations at the box office. According to Manobala Vijayabalan, a trade analyst, the Hindi-language drama earned Rs 125 crore in its full run. He went on to call it a ¡®flop¡¯.
¡°Kesari Chapter 2 grossed around ?125 cr at the WW Box Office. The film is a flop venture when compared with its budget,¡± he told Indiatimes
The film was shot on a budget of Rs 150 crore. Moreover, it was marketed as a sequel in essence to the 2019 film Kesari. Given this, it should have ideally outperformed Sky Force but this did not happen. The aerial action drama, which was filmed on a comparable budget of around Rs 160 crore`, earned Rs 168 crore* in its full run. However, like Kesari Chapter 2, it too fell short of expectations at the box office.
The second instalment of the Kesari franchise has, however, fared better than films such as Khel Khel Mein and Sarfira. The comedy drama made Rs 56 crore during its full run and faced competition from Stree 2 and Vedaa. Sudha Kongra¡¯s underdog saga, meanwhile, barely crossed the Rs 30 crore mark despite positive reviews. Sarfira and Khel Khel Mein were based on the Tamil drama Soorarai Pottru and the Italian film Perfect Strangers, respectively. Outperforming these releases is, however, not a major achievement, as both of them were unsuccessful at the box office.
