10 Movies That Made Noise At 2022 Oscar Awards And Where You Can Watch Them

The 94th Academy Awards concluded yesterday and the biggest newsmaker was Will Smith who got so furious that he slapped Chris Rock at a joke he didn't like about his wife. The apologies came afterward, but people still couldn't believe that a great actor like Smith lost his cool and took home an Oscar award, which was also his first, twenty minutes later.

Apart from this, several films made noise at the Oscar ceremony. The Power of the Dog led the pack in this year's nominations with 12 total nods. However, it only bagged Best Director award for Jane Campion. CODA took home the top prize - Best Picture award, Best Adapted Screenplay award and Best Supporting Actor award for Troy Kotsur.

1. CODA - Apple TV+

Starring Emilia Jones, Marlee Matlin, Troy Kotsur, who became the first deaf man to win an Oscar, CODA, which also won the Best Picture award, follows the story of Ruby who is the only hearing person in the family. While she wants to study music, she also feels she has to help her parents with their struggling business.

2. Dune - Amazon Prime Video

Starring Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, Dune which won Oscar awards for Best original score, cinematography, visual effects, film editing, sound and production design, is an adaptation of Frank Herbert's science fantasy novel about the son of a noble family who is also safeguarding the galaxy's most valuable substance.

3. King Richard - Theatres

The film for which Will Smith won his first-ever Oscar award has been released in Indian theatres on March 25. King Richards is a biopic on Richard Williams, the father and coach of tennis stars Serena and Venus Williams.

4. The Power Of The Dog - Netflix

Starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons and Kodi Smit-McPhee, The Power Of The Dog received most number of nominations this year, but only bagged the best director award for Jane Campion. The movie, which is based on Thomas Savage's 1967 novel of same name tells the story of how a rancher cruelly destroys his brother's new wife.

5. The Lost Daughter - Netflix

Maggie Gyllenhaal's impressive directorial debut, which stars Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley (who was nominated the best actress in a supporting role award, showcases how mother-daughter relationships can be frightful sometimes. It aptly shows how motherhood can become a challenge and affect the person adversely.

6. The Eyes of Tammy Faye - Disney+ Hostar

Starring Jessica Chastain (who won the best actress Oscar this year) and Andrew Garfield, The Eyes Of Tammy Faye is a biopic about the rise and fall of US televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker who married Jim Bakker, who was imprisoned for five years on charges of fraud.

7. Drive My Car - MUBI

Starring Hidetoshi Nishijima, Toko Miura, Masaki Okada, Reika Kirishima, Drive My Car will stream in India on MUBI from April 1. Based on a short story by Haruki Murakami, the film won Best international feature award at the Oscars. It's a Japanese road film about an actor and theatre director who has a young woman assigned to be his chauffeur. What happens when they go on a journey together.

8. Encanto - Disney+ Hotstar

The film that won the Best animated feature award at Oscars 2022, Encanto follows the story of Mirabel Madrigal who is the only member of the family without any magical powers. The movie is also being screened in theatres.

9. Don't Look Up

The American apocalyptic black comedy film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Rob Morgan, Jonah Hill and Mark Rylance among others. Nominated for Best Original Screenplay, Best Film Editing, Best Original Score and Best Picture awards, the movie talks about divisive politics as well as climate change.

10. Being the Ricardos - Amazon Prime Video

The film starring Nicole Kidman, Javier Bardem and JK Simmons follows the story of Lucy and Desi who face a situation of crisis that could end their careers and another that could end their marriage.
