Civil defence mock drill India: On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, India is holding a big civil defence mock drill. It is happening across 244 districts. Major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Srinagar are included. The civil drill is taking place at different times during the day.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has planned this large exercise. It aims to improve emergency preparedness and public safety. This comes after a terror attack in Pahalgam, South Kashmir, on April 22. That attack killed 26 people.
The civil defence mock drill includes air-raid sirens, blackout tests, and evacuation practice. People will also learn how to stay safe during attacks. Bunkers will be checked and maintained.
A civil defence mock drill is happening today in many cities to check how prepared people are for emergencies like air raids or blackouts. In Delhi, the drill will start at 4 PM in 55 locations. Ghaziabad will have sirens at 10 AM and 6 PM. In Gurgaon, people will take part in a voluntary blackout from 7 PM to 8 PM. Noida will have a different drill since it doesn¡¯t have a civil defence unit. These drills will help teach people what to do in case of an emergency.
What to expect during the civil defence mock drill?
The mock drill will imitate war-like emergency situations across India. Air raid warning sirens will be activated at fixed times. Crash blackout protocols will be enforced to mimic wartime power cuts.
Evacuation drills will include civilians, students, office workers, healthcare staff, and security forces. Emergency control rooms and communication with the Indian Air Force will be tested. Important buildings will be camouflaged, and evacuation plans will be updated.
Civilians will be trained on how to stay safe during attacks. They should avoid using phones to keep lines free. Everyone is advised to keep essential items ready¡ªlike medical kits, torches, candles, and some cash.

The drill will involve active participation from many groups. These include civil defence wardens, home guards, NCC and NSS cadets, NYKS volunteers, students, railway and metro staff, healthcare workers, and security forces. Local authorities will coordinate the activities.
Despite the scale of the exercise, transport services like metros, trains, buses, and flights will run normally. This is to avoid trouble for the public.
Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan held a video meeting with chief secretaries and civil defence heads. This was done to check that everything is ready. The drill is also a major test of India¡¯s civil defence systems. It is the biggest nationwide exercise of its kind since the 1971 war with Pakistan.
