16 YO Delhi Boy Attempts Suicide From 4th Floor Of Delhi Building, Blue Whale Link Suspected

The 'Blue Whale' fad is causing many youngsters to lose their lives, causing alarm and concern among parents and authorities about the future of the game and the generation falling prey to the chilling trend.

In another shocking incident, 16-year-old boy from Delhi has allegedly attempted suicide. The police has informed this and also has launched an inquiry a suspected an outcome of the 'Blue Whale Challenge', a game that has claimed many lives.

On Wednesday, the teenager has reportedly jumped off the fourth floor of his residential building in north west Delhi's Ashok Vihar. He left behind a few things like his slippers, spectacles and mobile phone before jumping off.

After the residents around saw what happened, he was rushed to a private hospital. His statement is yet to be recorded.

"During our investigation so far, the role of 'Blue Whale Challenge' has not been established," said Milind Dumbere, DCP (north west).

The teenager had been admitted to a new school very recently which the police suspect could be a possible reason behind his alleged suicide attempt. The boy's mobile phone is code-locked, which the police are now investigating. He said the boy is good in studies and active on social media.

More than six children across India in the age group of 12-19 years are suspected to have taken their lives playing this game within mere fifteen days.

'Blue Whale', a controversial Internet game in which a series of tasks, mostly involving self harm, are given to players for a period of 50 days by the administrators. The final challenge requires them to commit suicide. The players are asked to share pictures after finishing levels of the game. The game is spread via links on social media platforms.

Also a PIL was moved in Delhi High Court on August 16 seeking directions to Internet companies like Google, Facebook and Yahoo to take down the links of the game.
