The situation has sparked significant backlash online, especially amid recent controversy surrounding actor Kim Soo Hyun, who was rumoured to be close to Sae Ron.

According to a May 2 report by Money Today, Kim Sae Ron¡¯s father contacted her landlord on February 18¡ªthe day after her funeral¡ªseeking to reclaim a 50 million KRW (approx. $36,000 USD) jeonse (lump-sum lease) deposit. However, the deposit did not legally belong to Kim. It had been paid by a private education company executive, referred to as Mr. A, who financially supported the actress during a difficult period following her 2022 DUI incident and withdrawal from the public eye.

Mr. A reportedly covered the housing deposits for two separate residences in Nonhyeon-dong and Seongsu-dong. Another acquaintance, a singer referred to as Singer B, also contributed financially to one of the homes. Both individuals are said to have refused direct loans to Kim, opting instead to put the deposits in their own names to avoid burdening her with repayment pressure.

Once the landlord explained that the deposit was not Kim¡¯s to begin with, her father withdrew his request. Still, fans online are not holding back.

Taking to X, many fans slammed Kim Sae Ron's family for not being there for her during her difficult moments and having the heart to claim money back just one day after her funeral.

The controversy surrounding Kim Soo Hyun emerged from rumours that he had been romantically involved with Kim Sae Ron when she was a minor. Speculation started after Kim Sae Ron posted and later deleted a photo of the two together in 2023.

The situation intensified when, a month after Kim Sae Ron¡¯s death, her aunt publicly accused Kim Soo Hyun of dating her when she was just 15 and he was 27, claiming Garosero Research Institute.
