In Maharashtra¡¯s Solapur district, a CBSE Class 10 student has become a local sensation¡ªnot for topping the exam, but for securing the minimum passing marks. Shivam Waghmare, a student of Siddheshwar Balak Mandir School, passed the CBSE board exams with 35% in each subject and was greeted with cheers, sweets, and a celebratory procession.
A local celebration for a personal milestone
After the results were declared on May 13, 2025, Shivam¡¯s family and community wasted no time in marking the occasion. Videos from the area showed him being garlanded, receiving blessings from elders, and enjoying sweets with friends and relatives. For many, this was not just about passing an exam but overcoming expectations.
¡®We thought he would fail¡¯
Speaking to India Today, Shivam admitted he didn¡¯t expect to pass. ¡°I never thought I would get 35 marks in all subjects. It was shocking for me. But I am happy, and I will work hard next time. I want to pursue ITI,¡± he said.

His father echoed the surprise and happiness, saying, ¡°We thought our son would fail the exam. But he passed with 35 marks. It's a big success for us, and we are happy.¡±
Over 18 lakh students appeared
The CBSE Class 10 board exams were held from February 15 to March 18, 2025, with over 18 lakh students taking part nationwide. Exams were conducted under strict guidelines to ensure transparency. The Class 12 results were also announced, with 88.39% of students clearing the exams out of more than 16 lakh who appeared.
Shivam¡¯s story has stood out among the lakhs of students for its unusual but heartfelt celebration of effort, hope, and family pride.
